UPDATE APRIL 26, 2020: I got an email today from a chap named Roger Scott Craig, who says he is the original composer of the song. So I'll just put the email here in full for folks to read.
(He also said I could leave my version of the song on Bandcamp! What a nice fella!)

Hey Jex, I wrote that track for the Pelican brief that you covered. I am a retired composer now living in CA. I am on Wiki if you wanna check,
I have been retired for more than twenty years and many of those old tracks are not on my new computers. I scored more than 3000 TV commercials and wrote thousands of tracks for Playboy TV and most of those old tracks were deleted soon after. But let me see if I can find something for you.
I gained a lot of support from many people in the Beatles camp with my MTunz concept (Musicians selling their Tunz directly to their fans) but since Napster the whole music business has become a huge mess and sadly not a business I have any interest in now.

And so no problem with your version of that track.
Best,
Roger

UNKNOWN COMPOSER! This song is taken from a scene in the 1993 film "The Pelican Brief." The scene depicts a political assassination at a gay porno theatre, and a gorgeous melody plays in the background as the murder takes place. It's a violent scene made even more disturbing by the haunting beauty of the music that accompanies it.
It's also as balearic as all hell.
I've spent the last year trying to track down the original song, even going so far as to find the film's music supervisor on LinkedIn to ask him about the song. All of this to no avail.
In the meantime, I decided to do a "cover version" on my laptop and share it online in the hopes of tracking down the composer behind this tune. I've called it "Khamel's Theme" after the name of the assassin in the film.
Check out the scene, starring Stanley Tucci, here:
